Fischinger and Hertzfeldt DVDs

Whew. new site design. figuring out how to integrate the movable type template is in the works. i'm brushing up on my css as we speak.

ofmp001.JPG.jpg ofmp002.JPG.jpg allegretto.jpg

The Center for Visual Music is releasing an Oskar Fischinger DVD on May 15. Pre-orders are available through the website. $30 for home use or $200 for institutions. To my knowledge, this is the only place to get Fischenger's work outside of an older VHS and the pricey Unseen Cinema - Early American Avant Garde Film DVD set.

Don Hertzfeldt's bitter films volume one: 1995-2005 will open for pre-orders in May. Whooooooooo! Now you can get Lily and Jim, Billy's Balloon, and Rejected (and others) all in one place. (as opposed to the Short Cinema Journal... r.i.p.)

random link of the day:
Cary Fukunaga's Victoria para Chino looks great, but truly oddball is the user comment left on the short's imdb page. Is it a joke? I can't tell. It must be one of his friends...

Tax Photographs

During the 1930's, local governments began to use photography as a tool for appraising real property for taxation purposes. New York City was the largest municipality to adopt this technology. The result was 720,000 35mm black and white images of every property in the five Boroughs. NYC Department of Records - Tax Photographs.. $30 for an 8"x10" print, $45 - 11"x14" print, add $4 s/h.

There's additional excerpts from the city's municipal archives, which includes crime and criminals, the census c.1820, and a united jet crashing into park slope in 1960.

Andrea Offermann

I found Andrea Offerman's website through Tiny Showcase. Pink Elephants, the super intricate piece she did for their website, is available as a slightly larger (and slightly more expensive) 7" x 9" signed digital print! $30 w/ free s/h.

Also available are limited edition etchings. The Magellen series is particularly fantastic. If only I had $1,500 for artwork.

subway maps

subway.jpg

Check out these New York City Subway Historical Maps dating back to 1888! David Pirmann has run nycsubway.org since 1995 as a hobby. The site does not contain any banner ads and is sponsored by donations... it does contain a ridiculous amount of information on the new york subways (the interborough rapid transit subway, abandoned station guides, subway art guides, retired cars, and on and on).

iPhone

I'm anxiously reading all the new details on Apple's iPhone via macrumors (as well as the overshadowed iTV).
Meanwhile, did anyone try calling this number?

Cooking Mama: Cook Off

cookingmama.jpg

So far, WiiSports has held up pretty strong against WiiGhostbusting (Elebits) and WiiSurgery (Trauma Center: Second Opinion). I think Rayman Raving Rabbits will be a strong contender for WiiFavorite, what with the flying plunger guns and dancing rabbits... but what I'm really waiting for is Cooking Mama: Cook Off for Nintendo Wii. It's a cooking themed (one or two player) video game, in which you use your wii-mote to chop, grate, slice, stir, and roll (i.e. hold wii-mote upright to mash potatoes, lengthwise to fry in a pan, etc.).

Check out the amazing video preview at Food for Design.

Create 55 real world dishes from 10 different nations: Japan, America, France, India, Mexico, England, China, Spain, Germany and Italy. You can even make desserts like cream puffs and pudding too! From hot dogs to pan fried crab to bouillabaisse, Cook Off challenges you to make it all!

Pre-order for $49.99 at Amazon.

via Serious Eats (Congrats Lia on the new blogjob!)

P.S. Unfortunately, the Bob Ross 'Joy of Painting' Wii game is on hold indefinetely. Sad.
