The Center for Visual Music is releasing an Oskar Fischinger DVD on May 15. Pre-orders are available through the website. $30 for home use or $200 for institutions. To my knowledge, this is the only place to get Fischenger's work outside of an older VHS and the pricey Unseen Cinema - Early American Avant Garde Film DVD set.
Don Hertzfeldt's bitter films volume one: 1995-2005 will open for pre-orders in May. Whooooooooo! Now you can get Lily and Jim, Billy's Balloon, and Rejected (and others) all in one place. (as opposed to the Short Cinema Journal... r.i.p.)

During the 1930's, local governments began to use photography as a tool for appraising real property for taxation purposes. New York City was the largest municipality to adopt this technology. Check out these New York City Subway Historical Maps dating back to 1888! David Pirmann has run nycsubway.org since 1995 as a hobby. The site does not contain any banner ads and is sponsored by donations... it does contain a ridiculous amount of information on the new york subways (the interborough rapid transit subway, abandoned station guides, subway art guides, retired cars, and on and on).

So far, WiiSports has held up pretty strong against WiiGhostbusting (Elebits) and WiiSurgery (Trauma Center: Second Opinion). I think Rayman Raving Rabbits will be a strong contender for WiiFavorite, what with the flying plunger guns and dancing rabbits... but what I'm really waiting for is Cooking Mama: Cook Off for Nintendo Wii. It's a cooking themed (one or two player) video game, in which you use your wii-mote to chop, grate, slice, stir, and roll (i.e. hold wii-mote upright to mash potatoes, lengthwise to fry in a pan, etc.).
